HOW TO MAKE FITNESS A HABIT?

First of all it’s important to understand what is FITNESS? The cliché about fitness been restricted to just physical well-being has made it irrelevant to an average goer. Fitness defines every aspect of your health. It’s a state where you emotionally, mentally and physically feel secure. It drives you towards a healthy lifestyle and makes you more confident and optimist.

It’s not a rocket science on how to make fitness a part of your life. It’s all about recognising at first as to why it’s important for you? Here are few points you need to keep in mind to adapt fitness in your daily routine.

1.    Set your goals: The basic concept about fitness is setting your goals. Unless your vision is not clear you won’t get the desired result. Whether you want to lose weight or get bulkier or whatever you aspire to achieve. Setting goals gives you a long term objective and clarity about it.

2.    Be motivated: No matter how many motivational quotes you come across or how many inspiring pep talks you are given, always remember motivation comes from within. You aren’t going to attain your goals if you are not enthusiastic from inside.

3.    Keep it simple: You develop a habit by sticking to simple stuffs. You just need those small changes in your daily routine from-taking stairs, sleeping well or eating right. Fitness is a slow and long term process. It’s all about finding a balance between being productive and being patient.

4.    Consistency: The main component of fitness is consistency. That’s where we lack the most. You may hire the best trainer in the world and have the best diet plan to follow. Everything falls apart if you are inconsistent. It does take time to develop a consistent routine. You will get used to it only after a couple of day or weeks. It’s always tough at first no matter what you try for the first time. For instance, remember your first bicycle ride? It wasn’t smooth or easy, right? But, you constantly tried harder each time and committed to it and then it became a part of your life with ease. The same go for fitness as well.

5.    Patience: The problem with most people is they are impatient. They need quick results and are not even willing to work hard for it. Nothing changes overnight. You aren’t going to shed those extra pounds or get that rock-solid abs in a day.  Patience helps you grow and mature as a person.

6.    Take a breather: There would be days when you don’t feel like working out or having a proper meal. It’s totally fine. Your mental state is very important if you want to succeed. When your mind is not in it, your body will not follow through. Fitness doesn’t mean to punish oneself. If you are not emotionally sound on any given day it’s totally fine to go out there have a junk food and enjoy quality time.

7.    Diet: Your nutrition does play a major role in physical fitness. But, what we overlook is it plays an important role in our mental and emotional well-being as well. How a certain food changes your mood or how it acts as a stress buster for some. Healthy diet is important for your mental health as well as emotional growth. A healthy diet can have a positive impact on your body rather than an unhealthy diet which may cause more harm in times of despair. As an old saying, “You are what you eat”, be smart with your diet.

Fitness is a prolonged journey. You learn each day, about your body, about you overall well-being. You just need to put in that extra effort and focus on performance over results. You need to understand not everything works on everyone. Every person has a different journey. It’s not a smooth ride there will be hurdles and you must be confident enough to overcome them.
